Structure of the Framework

The NES post registration career framework for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals (NMAHPs) has two key parts Levels of Practice and Pillars of Practice.

Levels of Practice: This Career Development framework is based on levels 5-9 of the career framework for health (Skills for Health, 2006; Scottish Government, 2009). The overview of each level provides a description of the attributes expected and suggests the qualifications and Scottish Credit and Qualifications (SCQF) levels that might be expected.

Pillars of Practice: the four pillars of practice are:

  • Clinical Practice
  • Facilitation of Learning
  • Leadership
  • Evidence, research and development
